Whittier Adding Five New Electric Charging Stations

In a move toward more sustainable energy practices, Whittier city officials have announced the addition of five new electric vehicle charging stations. This marks another step the city is taking in their fight against climate change and their commitment to lowering CO2 emissions. The stations will be installed throughout the city within the next six months. Some existing city parking lots will host the stations, with the exact locations yet to be announced.

Tackling Climate Change Head-On

Expanding the city’s electric vehicle infrastructure is a key climate action plan strategy. The electric charging stations will encourage people to shift to electric vehicles, reducing the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. The city officials believe this move will significantly enhance Whittier’s sustainability efforts.

Potential Benefits for Electric Vehicle Owners

The installation of charging stations enables electric vehicle owners to charge while visiting places in the city. Thus, eliminating the need to return home for charging their vehicles. While it currently costs an average of $0.12 per kWh to charge an electric vehicle, this price may decline as more charging stations become available.

Funding for the Project

This project was made possible through a combination of grants and city funding. The money from the government’s grant program for climate action is being used to cover part of the costs. The city also contributes significant funds.

The expansion of public charging stations is a proactive commitment by the city in the face of climate change. Such initiatives show that progress can be made even in challenging times.
