Exciting News: The Walk to End Alzheimer’s Returns to Knoxville This September!

Exciting News for Knoxville: The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is Back!

Hey there, Knoxville! Mark your calendars because the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s is just around the corner. This much-anticipated event will take place on September 21 at the beautiful Zoo Knoxville. Whether you’re a seasoned participant or a first-timer, there’s something incredibly special about coming together to raise awareness and funds for a cause that affects so many families.

Event Schedule and Details

The day kicks off with on-site registration starting at 7:30 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony at 9 a.m.. The actual walk will begin shortly after, at 9:30 a.m.. So, grab your sneakers, and maybe a light breakfast, and prepare to join your neighbors in a meaningful event that brings us all together for such an important cause.

This year, organizers have a lofty goal in mind: they aim to raise a whopping $220,000 to support the Alzheimer’s Association efforts in care, support, and research. Every dollar raised makes a significant impact and helps move us closer to a world free of Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Walk Your Way

What’s really cool about this event is that you can join in however you like! There are several local and national companies sponsoring teams, but don’t feel like you have to be part of a group. You can create your own team or even walk as an individual. Every step counts!

If walking isn’t in the cards for you, don’t worry; there are plenty of ways you can still contribute. You can volunteer at the event or make a lovely donation to help the cause. For those interested in donating, every little bit helps and is much appreciated!

Colorful Connections

Each registered participant will receive a Promise Garden flower upon arrival at the event. These beautiful flowers serve as a visual representation of our connections to Alzheimer’s. Here’s what each color signifies:

  • Blue – Represents someone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.
  • Purple – Symbolizes those we’ve lost to the disease.
  • Yellow – For those who are currently supporting or caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s.
  • Orange – Represents those who support the cause and the vision of a world without Alzheimer’s.

A Rain-or-Shine Event

Heads up, though: the walk is a rain-or-shine event! The only time the event will be canceled is in the case of severe weather. If things go south weather-wise, organizers promise to keep everyone updated via their Walk homepage on the morning of September 21.

Wrapping Up

Whether you’re there to walk, support a team, volunteer, or just show your love for this important cause, we can’t wait to see all of you at Zoo Knoxville. Let’s show our strength and unity as a community by stepping out for the millions affected by Alzheimer’s. Together, we can make a difference!

Get ready to put your best foot forward, Knoxville, and let’s make this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s one for the books!
