Spangler: Cancer ‘is almost non-existent’
Knoxville, TN – Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler shared a significant personal victory. Although not a candidate in any races, Spangler received cheers of the evening as he addressed supporters about his ongoing fight with pancreatic cancer.
A Hopeful Update on Health
Spangler, diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year, revealed positive news. “Everything is good right now,” Spangler said. “I’m doing good, really good. I’ve been blessed. Things are positive.”
He elaborated, explaining that the DNA of the tumor had dropped to zero. “The tumor’s DNA is at zero, which is where they wanted it to be. It’s gone down to where it is almost non-existent. It’s not moving around in my blood system.”
Appreciation for Support
Spangler expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout the journey. “I appreciate all the phone calls, texts, and emails,” he said. “It helped, and without it, I wouldn’t be here. It’s truly been a blessing.” He noted that this support was crucial during his second treatment, a tough period that left him unsure about continuing the battle.
Commitment to Serve
Despite his health scare, Spangler affirmed his commitment to fulfill his term as Knox County Sheriff. “I’m humbled to be your sheriff for the next two years and 29 days,” he said, vowing to continue serving with dedication. He also promised to support his fellow candidates in the upcoming general election.
Republicans Celebrate Victories, Call for Unity in November
The watch party was more than just a celebration of health; it was a night of triumph for the Knox County Republican Party. Re-elected officials and victorious candidates emphasized the importance of unity heading into the November elections.
Gratitude and Teamwork
Others highlighted the crucial role of teamwork and called on their supporters to remain active and engaged. “Team Massey won this race,” said Becky Duncan Massey, who won the primary for Tennessee House, District 6. “I have an incredible team, and everybody sacrificed.”
New Faces on the Board of Education
Victories on the Knox County Board of Education were also celebrated. Travis Wright, who won the District 8 seat, expressed excitement about serving the children of Knox County. Similarly, newly-elected Lauren Morgan for District 5 shared her eagerness to contribute to the excellence of Knox County Schools.
Looking Forward
Republicans now turn their attention to ensuring these victories translate into continued success in the general election. As Spangler’s personal battle exemplifies resilience and hope, the night’s overall message was clear: with unity and determination, both personal and political challenges can be overcome.
