Get ready for some road work in East Tennessee this weekend, which could impact your commute. Here’s what to expect and how to plan around it.
Starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 2, traffic on I-40 West exiting onto I-640 West (Exit 393) will be reduced to one lane. Crews are working on bridge repairs over Rutledge Pike. This lane reduction will be in place 24/7 and is expected to conclude by 6 a.m. on Monday, August 5. Keep in mind this schedule depends on favorable weather conditions.
Starting Monday, August 5, roadblocks will be set up on Alcoa Highway (US 129/State Route 115) between Woodson Drive and Cherokee Trail from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.. This will allow crews to safely move equipment and perform rock excavation and clearing activities. These operations will continue throughout the week.
Additionally, from August 5 through Friday, August 9, expect flagging operations on the ramp from northbound Alcoa Highway at the traffic signal at Cherokee Trail and along Cherokee Trail between the Alcoa Highway interchange and Medical Center Way. These will also occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to manage the safe unloading of materials and truck movements.
Due to wet weather conditions, road work on Old Knoxville Highway has been delayed and will continue through Monday, August 5. You can expect single-lane closures from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The city announced that another round of street paving is set to begin in early August. Check out which streets will be newly paved to avoid getting delayed.
Don’t forget about the ongoing closure of the Gay Street Bridge, which has been closed since June 25. The Tennessee Department of Transportation and the City of Knoxville are awaiting the final inspection report before giving any updates on the bridge’s status.
In Gatlinburg, portions of Reagan Drive are closed as the city undertakes a significant project to rehabilitate sewer lines under the road.
