Located at 3726 Sevier Heights Road, The Mighty Wig provides a sanctuary for individuals grappling with hair loss. More than just a business, it is a vibrant testament to hairstylist, theatrical wig designer, and artist, Siobian (Sha-von) Jones.
The Mighty Wig, positioned on the second floor of an understated building and near South Knoxville’s Baker Creek Preserve, was founded just weeks ago. The artfully designed space is a product of Siobian and her husband, reflecting an eclectic mix of creativity and industry. Visitors are greeted with warmth and acceptance, providing a sense of community and belonging. Siobian’s journey has crossed two decades and several states, making her an experienced professional in hair-styling and wig design.
From Shakespeare festivals to Cirque Du Soleil, Siobian’s work has spanned the glitz and glamour of showbiz, including a stint in Los Angeles’s music industry. But, the turbulent times brought on by the Covid pandemic led her on a different path. Spurring an extension of her creativity beyond theater, The Mighty Wig became a beacon of hope for those dealing with hair loss.
Siobian believes in open conversation, creating a secure and understanding environment for her customers. Her work is grounded in three strong principles solidified on her website: ‘Bald is Beautiful’, ‘Self-Care Is Not Selfish’ and ‘Wigs Are Not Vain’. She also collaborates with ‘Wigs for Kids’, dedicating her time and talent to crafting wigs for children grappling with medical hair loss conditions.
An early-career volunteer experience with the American Cancer Society exposed Siobian to the emotional challenges cancer patients face due to hair loss. This insight provided her with drive and purpose. Now, she caters to a wide clientele, from various walks of life, dealing with medical conditions such as lupus, immune system issues, and thyroid conditions causing temporary or permanent hair loss.
The Mighty Wig currently operates on an appointment-only basis to ensure customer privacy. However, Siobian envisions an expanded future for her business, aiming to reach out to more people and help them embrace their situation with a newly found love for their hair. Regardless of its growth, one aspect will stand firm, Siobian’s unyielding passion for her work and the individuals she welcomes into her sphere.
