In an effort to support voter turnout, Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) will offer fare-free rides on Election Day, Thursday, August 1, 2024.
“Access to transportation is crucial for voter participation,” said the Director of Transit for the City of Knoxville. The goal is to eliminate barriers that may prevent people from getting to the polls, thereby ensuring all residents can exercise their right to vote.
Passengers can plan their route to the polling stations using the free Transit app, the trip planner feature on KAT’s website, or by contacting KAT’s customer service at 865-637-3000. Passengers are advised to plan their trips early to ensure on-time arrival, as some routes may finish before polling stations close.
If unsure of where to vote, polling locations can be found by visiting a specific website. Checking this ahead of time helps in effective trip planning.
KAT’s initiative to provide free rides to polling stations aims to encourage more residents to be a part of the democratic process.
