Knoxville Gears Up for Thanksgiving with Special Holiday Schedules!

Hey there, Knoxville! As we all get ready to gobble up some turkey and enjoy time with our loved ones this Thanksgiving, it’s important to know how some city services will be affected. Here’s a quick rundown to help keep your holiday stress-free!

City Offices Closed for the Holiday

First up, if you have any business to take care of at City offices, you’ll need to hold off until next week! Offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29. This includes the Office of Neighborhood Empowerment, so plan accordingly!

Garbage Collection Schedule

Now, for those of you wondering about your garbage and recycling collection, don’t worry! Things will run as usual from Monday, November 25, through Wednesday, November 27. But take note: there will be no collection on Thanksgiving Day, so make sure to put everything out early if you can.

Waste Connections will be taking on the Thursday routes on Friday and the Friday routes on Saturday. So, if you’re used to that Thursday pick-up, remember it will be happening on Friday instead!

What About Overflow and Trash Cart Rules?

Also, a friendly reminder! When you’re getting rid of your household garbage, please limit your waste to the contents of your City-issued trash cart. Unfortunately, if your trash lid is lifted or there is overflow trash around, it won’t be picked up. So, let’s keep things tidy and stick to the rules!

Downtown Services and Recycling Centers

For those in the downtown area, garbage and recycling will still be collected on a regular schedule, except for Thanksgiving Day. Be aware that the City’s five recycling centers will remain open, but there won’t be an attendant available at Goodwill for household goods donations on Thanksgiving. Make sure to hold on to those donations until an attendant is present if you can!

Solid Waste Facility Closure

If you plan to visit the City’s Solid Waste Facility located at 1033 Elm St., you’ll want to note that it will be closed starting on Thanksgiving Day until Saturday, November 30. No worries though, because it will resume normal operating hours on Monday, December 2.
