Knoxville Prepares for Busy Weekend with Street Closures and Exciting Events

Knoxville Gears Up for a Busy Weekend with Street Closures

Hey, Knoxville! Are you ready for an exciting weekend? There’s a whole lot of fun happening in and around downtown that you definitely won’t want to miss. But before you head out, let’s chat about some temporary street closures that may affect your travel plans. The city has provided a rundown of when and where these closures will take place. So, let’s dive in!

Friday, October 4: A Festive Start

Starting off strong, the city is gearing up for a wonderful event on Friday. The parade is set to kick off at 4:30 p.m. and will close down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Ben Hur Avenue and Beal Bourne Street until around 5:30 p.m. If you were planning to drive through that area, it might be a good idea to take an alternate route.

In addition to the parade, several roads will see closures from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow. Another street closure starts at 6 p.m. and will reopen after the parade wraps up. And don’t forget, the street parking meters in those areas will be temporarily unavailable, so keep an eye out for no-parking signs.

One of the main streets to watch for is Jackson Avenue, which will be closed between State Street and Central Street from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Make sure you plan accordingly if you need to drive in that direction!

Saturday, October 5: More Excitement Awaits

If you thought Friday was eventful, wait until you see what’s happening on Saturday! From 6:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Market Street will be closed between Union and Clinch avenues, along with Union Avenue between Walnut and Gay streets. So, if you need to make your way through that area, a little planning ahead will go a long way.

Additionally, Martin Luther King Boulevard will be closed from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. between Oakland and Lakeside streets. That’s quite a lineup of street closures, but don’t worry—it’s all for a good cause. So grab your friends or family, and enjoy the festivities while keeping these road closures in mind!

Sunday, October 6: Remembering with a Purpose

As the weekend winds down, Sunday will feature the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, taking place at First Horizon Plaza. To accommodate this important event, Gay Street between Cumberland Avenue and Main Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s a great opportunity for the community to come together and honor a significant moment in history.

Moreover, First Baptist Church will host Music on Main, turning Main Street between Walnut and Locust avenues into a lively space from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you’re planning to join in on the musical fun, be mindful of those road closures.

Plan Ahead and Enjoy!

As you can see, Knoxville is buzzing with activity this weekend! While these road closures may cause some inconveniences, they also highlight the vibrant community spirit and events that we love.

We encourage everyone to plan their travels ahead of time, consider alternative routes, and most importantly, enjoy all the excitement that Knoxville has to offer! Whether you’re attending the parade, participating in the stair climb, or soaking up the live music, this weekend promises great memories.

So, put on your comfortable shoes, gather your pals, and get ready for a fun-filled weekend. There’s no place like Knoxville, and we can’t wait to see you out there!
