Attention Knoxville Motorists: Road Construction Is Coming Your Way!
Knoxville residents and travelers alike, grab your calendars! If you frequently find yourself cruising down Alcoa Highway (that’s US 129/State Route 115 for you road aficionados), you’re going to want to pay attention to upcoming plans that may affect your driving routine. Buckle up for some important updates as road construction activities are just around the corner!
What’s Happening?
From Monday, March 31, to Saturday, April 5,
drivers should be prepared for temporary traffic disruptions. The construction process is going to make waves between Woodson Drive and Cherokee Trail. Expect to encounter rolling roadblocks intermittently throughout this timeframe, lasting around 20 minutes each time. The roadblocks will be in effect every day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., so plan your travels accordingly!
What Are Rolling Roadblocks?
Now you might be wondering, what’s the deal with these rolling roadblocks? Well, they’re designed to let construction crews safely mobilize their equipment and perform essential tasks like rock excavation and clearing. Safety is the name of the game here, so give those workers the space they need to do their jobs!
Watch for Flagging Operations!
But wait, there’s more! Starting on the same day, March 31, flagging operations will be taking place too. Drivers will notice these flaggers at the traffic signal on the ramp from northbound Alcoa Highway at Cherokee Trail as well as along Cherokee Trail itself. This will extend all the way from the Alcoa Highway interchange to Medical Center Way, and will also run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., each day. The purpose? To facilitate the unloading of materials and ensure safe truck access to the work areas. So if you see a flagger waving you down, they’re just doing their part to keep things organized and running smoothly.
Heads Up: Life Star Road Closure
And there’s a bit more to consider! Keep in mind that Life Star Road will be closed to thru traffic on the evenings of Wednesday, April 2, and Thursday, April 3, from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m.. This closure is to allow crews to install a new storm drainpipe across the roadway. If this is in your regular route, it’s best to steer clear of Life Star Road during these hours. Instead, why not take Medical Center Way as an alternate route? You’ll be helping to avoid delays and keep the area less crowded.
Stay Informed and Safe!
As always, the construction schedule is weather-dependent, so keep an eye out for any changes. Motorists are strongly advised to expect delays and to exercise extreme caution near all workers on the site. Remember to stay alert and practice safe driving habits—especially when those tempting mobile devices might be calling your name.
