City of Knoxville Accepts Applications for Neighborhood Advisory Council

The City of Knoxville is inviting community members to apply for the Neighborhood Advisory Council (NAC). This is a great opportunity for local residents who want to engage with city government and advocate for their neighborhoods.

What Is the Neighborhood Advisory Council?

The NAC is a group made up of neighborhood leaders and advocates who meet regularly to discuss issues affecting various neighborhoods across the city. It consists of 15 members, with two representatives from each of the six City Council districts and three at-large members. This council acts as a bridge between residents and city officials, allowing for better communication and collaboration on neighborhood needs.

It is important to note that the deadline for applications is Friday, August 16, at 4:30 p.m.

Meeting Schedule

The NAC meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. There are no meetings in July and December, providing some flexibility for members during the year. Applicants should be willing to attend these meetings regularly, with only necessary absences allowed.

Currently, there are multiple seats open on the council, including:

• Seat 1-B (Thomas Egan)
• Seat 3-A (Lily Seabolt)
• Seat 4-A (Monty Howard)
• Seat 5-B (Angel Bowman)
• Seat 6-A (Vacant)
• At-Large Seat A (Vacant)

To qualify for a numbered seat, applicants must reside in that specific City Council district. For example, a person applying for Seat 2-A must live in the Second Council District. On the other hand, candidates for At-Large positions can live anywhere in the city.

Terms and Reapplication

Members of the NAC are appointed for a term of three years and may serve a maximum of two full terms, which adds up to a potential of six years. If a member wishes to continue serving after their first term, they will need to reapply.
