Sponsor Our ArticlesIn the early hours of Friday morning, on Ohio Avenue, North Knoxville, a house fire was reportedly sparked by fireworks, according to the Knoxville Fire Department (KFD). When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found heavy fire seeping out from the roof of the house.
As KFD was en route to the house fire location, a firework was reportedly shot into the cab of the engine, causing injury to a firefighter. Details on the extent of the injury or the current condition of the firefighter are not immediately available.
Despite the intensity of the fire, it was quickly extinguished by the attending firefighters. The house, however, sustained moderate fire, smoke, and water damage. The majority of the fire was contained to the attic space and the roof. At the time of the incident, the house was reportedly unoccupied.
KFD investigators asserts that the cause of the fire to be linked to fireworks, potentially a rogue firework from a neighborhood celebration. Fireworks safety is a subject that fire departments across the country frequently acknowledge, especially during holiday seasons when such incidents are more likely to occur.
Incidents involving fireworks igniting domestic fires have been a constant issue, especially during the celebration of national holidays. These unfortunate events often lead to loss of property and sometimes even human lives, making it a pressing concern for the communities involved and the public safety agencies that oversee them.
The house, now showing visible signs of damage and severity of the fire, stands as a testament to the potential hazards of fireworks if not handled properly. It is a reminder for residents to adhere to safety guidelines when using fireworks.
With the aftermath of this incident, an emphasis on safety becomes paramount. Residents are encouraged to maintain vigilance, particularly when handling potentially dangerous items such as fireworks. Undertake any fireworks-related activities with extreme caution to minimize risk and unpredictability.
The Fire Department advises the public to follow safety protocols when lighting fireworks, including maintaining a safe distance from other people and structures and not relighting duds. Safety measures should be implemented to prevent avoidable accidents, and the use of fireworks should ideally be supervised by a responsible adult.
