As the holiday season approaches, the atmosphere in Knoxville is buzzing with excitement, joy—and, for many, a little bit of worry. While twinkling lights and festive decorations brighten the streets, countless individuals and families in our community are facing tough times. That’s where the amazing work of The Salvation Army Knoxville Area Command comes into play!
This year, The Salvation Army has set an ambitious goal of raising $225,000. Why the big goal? Well, the demand for essential services in our community has never been greater. From providing three square meals a day to offering shelter and clothing, The Salvation Army is devoted to ensuring that those hit hardest by the challenges of everyday life can find the support they need.
To put things into perspective, last year alone, The Salvation Army Knoxville served over 35,000 meals and provided 34,000 nights of shelter along with 2,000 boxes of food to families in need. The holiday season might be filled with cheer for some, but it also brings unique challenges for many others. Major Cameron Henderson, the Area Commander, emphasizes the importance of donations, saying, “Every gift, no matter the size, takes us one step closer to lifting someone out of hardship.”
Your contributions not only create smiles on Christmas morning but also support crucial programs like the Angel Tree, which provides clothing and toys to children and seniors also in need. The funds raised this season will help ensure that families stay in their homes with assistance for rent, utilities, and housing.
But wait, there’s more! The Salvation Army also offers a food pantry, disaster relief, individualized case management, and even spiritual care services. There are countless ways you can help brighten the lives of those around you this holiday season.
If you’re part of a local business or organization, they’re rolling out an exciting opportunity—sponsoring a Kettle Match Day! This means every donation made at the Red Kettles will be matched dollar for dollar, doubling the impact of your goodwill. It’s a great way to get involved and motivate others to join the cause!
Several local sponsors are already on board, and with more match days available, now is the perfect time for businesses to step up and make a difference. Interested in learning more? Reach out to Kayla Klein at (865) 335-9580.
The excitement truly kicks off on November 15th at the Knoxville Ice Bears Hockey Game, where the community will celebrate the start of the Red Kettle Campaign! Not only will Major Henderson and his wife, Major Paula Henderson, be present, but they’ll also be joined by Mayor Glenn Jacobs for a ceremonial puck drop. It’s a fantastic way to unite the community while showcasing the spirit of giving!
