KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Fire Department is assisting South Carolina as Tropical Storm Debby threatens to cause serious disruption following its impact as a Category 1 hurricane in Florida.
A specialized 12-man task force from the Knoxville Fire Department, equipped with emergency response vehicles, is departing. These firefighters will be stationed in South Carolina for up to 10 days, providing crucial support post-storm.
The team comprises of experts in water rescues and emergency medical services. Their deployment is set to strengthen local operations in managing the possible implications of the storm, including flooding and other emergencies.
“We are dedicated to assisting our neighbors in South Carolina during this critical period,” stated KFD Chief Sharp. “Our firefighters are trained for high-risk situations, and we will do our best to buttress local emergency services and communities distressed by Hurricane Debby.”
Tropical Storm Debby has already instigated devastation in Florida, with no less than four fatalities reported. As the storm progresses towards South Carolina, local emergency services are preparing for what has been characterized as a “historic and potentially unprecedented event” by Charleston County Interim Emergency Director Ben Webster.
