Knoxville Community Remembers Beloved Resident Betty Kay York, 82, in Heartfelt Tribute

Knoxville Community Mourns the Loss of Betty Kay York

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, the city of Knoxville grieved the passing of a beloved community member, Betty Kay York, who left this world at the age of 82. She spent her last moments surrounded by her family and loved ones in the comfort of her home.

A Life Well-Lived

Betty was the cherished daughter of the late Clarence and Sarah Lunsford. A proud member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, she was known for her vibrant spirit and warm-hearted nature. Betty’s life was filled with love, laughter, and a tightly-knit family that spanned generations.

Remembering Loved Ones

While Betty’s passing leaves a significant void, her legacy also includes many treasured memories. She is preceded in death not only by her parents but also by her devoted husband and her son, Roger York. The community feels the weight of her loss alongside her family, which stands strong in their time of mourning.

Survived by a Loving Family

Betty’s family remains a testament to her love and nurturing spirit. She is survived by her sons: Albert York from New Mexico, and Charlie and Dorothy York from Knoxville, Tennessee. Her daughters include JoAnn and Aaron Irwin of Clinton, Barbara York and Mapuana of New Mexico, Brenda and David of Florida, Debbie Pressley of Knoxville, and her daughter-in-law Connie York from Athens, Tennessee.

Additionally, Betty is mourned by her brothers Raymond Lunsford and Shirley from Lewisburg, and Fred Hinkle from Clinton. She is also remembered fondly by her sisters, including Guyoma Bryant of Black Mountain, Kentucky, and Wanda Singer from Springsboro, Ohio, along with her fiancé James Freeze. The love continues with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many of whom will carry forth Betty’s spirit.

Celebration of Life

The family has extended an invitation to the community to pay their respects during the visitation scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 6 PM to 8 PM. There will also be an evening session on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 6 PM to 7 PM. Following this, a celebration of life will take place at 7 PM in the chapel of Jones Mortuary in Clinton, TN. Everyone who knew Betty is encouraged to join in honoring her life and sharing cherished memories.

As we reflect on Betty Kay York’s rich life, her absence is felt deeply throughout Knoxville. Her kindness and warmth undoubtedly touched the hearts of many.
