Knoxville, TN – A shadow has fallen over our community as we come together to remember and celebrate the life of Trooper Grant Edward Gouldie, a devoted husband, father, and dedicated servant of the public. Grant, who dedicated his life to protecting and serving others, passed away on November 16, 2024, leaving behind a world that feels a little dimmer without his shining light.
Grant was born on January 21, 1990, in Knoxville and grew up in Lake City, now known as Rocky Top. He was known for his gentle spirit and unwavering faith, often found attending services at Salem Baptist Church, where his love for Christ and the community was evident to all who were lucky enough to know him.
Grant led a fulfilling life. After graduating from Anderson County High School in 2008, where he excelled in athletics, including basketball and cross country, he followed his dreams of serving others by pursuing a career in law enforcement. In 2016, he joined the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), and quickly became a well-respected figure in the department.
Standing a remarkable 6’8”, Grant was hard to miss—not just for his height, but for the respect he commanded while on duty. Whether he was patrolling the streets of Knox County in his sturdy SUV or cruising on his beloved Harley Davidson Electra Glide, Grant carried himself with a sense of grace and humility that is rare in today’s world.
His commitment to the high standards of the THP earned him the admiration of his colleagues and countless grateful citizens. Grant often described law enforcement as a calling, remarking, “I was called to this career by a higher power.” To him, it was about more than simply doing a job—it was about protecting his community with honesty, loyalty, and compassion.
Though he carried the weight of his badge with pride, Grant’s true joy lay in his family. His wife, Amanda, was not just his partner but also his best friend. Together they created a warm and loving home for their three children: Maelynn, Jaxon, and Ava. Grant made it a priority to express his love daily, ensuring his children knew how much they meant to him.
Grant’s nurturing spirit extended beyond his own family. He was a mentor to many new troopers, taking pride in shaping the next generation of law enforcement officers with his patience and caring nature.
Survived by his loving parents, Susie and Dale Gouldie, his sister, Tara Thacker, and many loving nieces and nephews, his legacy remains strong within them. Even in the face of sorrow, the memory of Grant’s kindness and larger-than-life presence will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have crossed his path.
The community is invited to pay their respects during visitation hours on November 21, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Second Baptist Church in Clinton, TN. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm, where we will gather to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Trooper Grant Gouldie—the man who made our world a better place.
As we bid farewell to this incredible man, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy of faith, love, and service will forever echo in our hearts. Grant, your watch has ended, but your spirit will continue to guide us. Rest easy, knowing you were truly a light in this world.
