Knoxville Rallies Together For Coats for the Cold

As winter approaches, the city of Knoxville is coming together to support its neighbors through the 39th Annual Coats for the Cold event. Hosted by the Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM), this warm-hearted initiative aims to collect “new and gently used coats” for those in need. The deadline for donations has recently been extended to November 16, giving everyone plenty of time to contribute.

How You Can Help

2X and up. They’ve made it super easy to donate, too! You can drop off coats at the red bins located in front of their stores, or take them to special donation trailers set up on Middlebrook Pike and in Kingston. For those interested in donating, you can find store locations by visiting their official website.

Who Benefits From the Coats?

But that’s not all! If you or someone you know needs a coat, you can grab coat tickets at various KARM locations spread throughout the city. Additionally, over 1,000 local churches and non-profits have teamed up with KARM and can help distribute tickets too. Once you have a ticket, you’ll be able to pick out a warm coat from November 18 to December 7. It’s a fantastic way to stay warm during the chilly months!

The Impact of Coats for the Cold

Julia Dietz, the Director of Marketing and Communications at KARM, emphasizes how vital this program is for the community. “This event has a huge impact because we are all over East Tennessee, so from Lenoir City to Maryville to Oak Ridge and Morristown and everywhere in between,” she shared. “So many people say that without this program, they wouldn’t be able to have coats for themselves or their families. It’s just such an amazing way to connect with the community and provide necessities that otherwise they might not be able to have.”

Mark Your Calendar!

If you were looking to donate but didn’t make it before the original deadline, fear not! KARM has extended the collection period, which means you have more time to clean out those closets and help keep a fellow Knoxvillian warm this season.

Spread the Word!

Let’s make the 39th Annual Coats for the Cold event a huge success! Help spread the word and encourage friends and family to pitch in as well. Remember, your old coat might just be what someone else needs to stay toasty and comfortable this winter!

With the weather changing, let’s all do our part to ensure that everyone in Knoxville can stay warm. Don’t forget to check the KARM website for updates and details on locations, and let’s come together as a community to support each other during the chilly months ahead.

Your generosity can make a big difference, so let’s get those coats rolling in!
