Knoxville, TN—Knoxville’s newest educational addition, Knox Prep, has officially opened its doors to students, marking a new era in the city’s educational landscape. This all-boys charter school is the first single-gender institution in Knox County Schools.
The school welcomed its inaugural class of 105 sixth graders at its Iwin Street location, housed in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tennessee Valley building. Students and parents alike are excited about the unique learning opportunities Knox Prep promises to offer. Initial feedback from the first day suggests a blend of enthusiasm and optimism about what lies ahead.
According to school administrators, Knox Prep plans to gradually expand its enrollment. Each year, a new sixth-grade class will join as the prior class advances. The school aims to serve a full capacity of 700 students by the 2030-2031 school year. Eventually, Knox Prep will operate as both a middle and high school.
The school is currently fully staffed with seven dedicated teachers. Janet Crenshaw, the principal of Knox Prep, brings a wealth of experience to her role. A 2009 graduate of Emory University, Crenshaw also holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Columbia University. She has previously worked with IDEA Public Schools, a network of charter schools.
The opening of Knox Prep is a significant development for the Knoxville community. The school aims to provide a unique educational environment with a focus on character building and academic excellence. As Knox Prep grows, it is expected to become a cornerstone of Knoxville’s educational community.
