It was just a typical Saturday afternoon in Knoxville when the unexpected struck. Little Legaci Rose Kirk was enjoying a fun day playing with her friends outside. But in an instant, the laughter and joy turned into sheer panic when Legaci was hit by a car on November 2. Her mother, Jala Jackson, recalls the moment vividly, saying, “When those kids ran in to tell me what happened, my heart dropped.”
As the kids dashed inside to alert Jala, she rushed outside to find her daughter laying face down and unconscious. “Initially, I just didn’t think she was even here with us,” Jala shared. Just when it seemed like all hope was lost, Legaci took a miraculous gasp of air. The family quickly called for help, and Legaci was rushed to the hospital, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) to receive critical care.
Doctors discovered that Legaci suffered from some serious injuries—two fractured eye sockets, a deep cut on her face, and a subarachnoid hemorrhage in her brain. It was a daunting diagnosis for the entire family, leaving Jala praying for a miracle. And her prayers were answered when, just ten days later, Legaci woke up, much to everyone’s relief and delight.
“She’s awake and she’s eating candy!” Jackson exclaimed, her voice full of gratitude and joy. The little girl was well on her way to making a full recovery. Being able to return home this week feels like a dream come true for her mother. “Just from where we were last week to now, it’s God, honestly. He has put his hands on everyone involved,” Jala said.
Now, as Legaci looks forward to returning home, she has her sights set on some simple pleasures: playing with her 1-year-old brother and creating more videos for TikTok. “I just can’t wait to be back outside, playing with him and having fun,” she shared with a spark in her eye.
This heartwarming recovery has also led Jala to reflect on community safety. “I hope this incident will open the door for more safety measures on our street, like speed bumps,” she said passionately. She believes that enhancing safety measures could prevent such dreadful situations in the future. Jala feels that if they can advocate for those speed bumps, it may help ensure that no other family has to face a scare like theirs.
As the community rallies around Legaci and her family during this challenging time, it becomes clear that everyone has a role to play in keeping children safe. Jala’s plea for more awareness serves as a reminder: Just a moment of distraction for drivers can have severe consequences.
As Legaci finishes up her recovery and prepares to go home, she embodies the spirit of resilience. Her journey serves as a beacon of hope for families everywhere, showing just how quickly life can change and how loved ones can come together to overcome adversity.
Kudos to Legaci for her incredible strength and for Jala’s unwavering hope. Here’s hoping for a future full of safer streets and joyful memories for the Kirk family!
