Knoxville Prepares for Weekend Block Parties

Knoxville, Tenn. — Excitement is in the air as two block party celebrations are set to take over downtown Knoxville this weekend. Starting on Friday, September 6, 2024, locals and visitors alike can enjoy a lively atmosphere as roads close to motorized vehicles for the festivities.

Road Closures and Party Details

Beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, the 100 block of Gay Street will be closed between Jackson and Vine avenues. This closure will last until 10 p.m. for the Arts and Culture Alliance’s First Friday block party. To facilitate the event, parking meters in this area will be bagged starting at 2 p.m., and on-street parking will reopen at 10 p.m.

This month’s First Friday event promises an engaging experience with live music performed by the Fountain City Ramblers. In addition to the music, around 20 local artist vendors will showcase their works on the block. The Emporium will also feature new exhibits by talented artists, offering a perfect weekend outing for art lovers.

Jackson Avenue Block Party

Meanwhile, another exciting event is happening at the inaugural Jackson Avenue Block Party, which will also cause road closures on Friday. The block party is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., during which Jackson Avenue will be closed to motorized traffic from North Central to State Streets. Similar to the First Friday, parking meters along this route will be bagged at 2 p.m. and closed to parking at 4 p.m.

Old City Market on Sunday

For those who may miss out on the Fun on Friday, there’s more in store on Sunday, September 8. The same closure on Jackson Avenue will again come into play for the Old City Market, which will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. This vibrant market will showcase local art, crafts, and food vendors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., ensuring every visitor will find something enjoyable.
