Are you ready, Knoxville? It’s that exciting time of year again when we come together to celebrate the best of the best in our vibrant community! This year’s winners reveal the incredible efforts of individuals and businesses who make this city truly special.
Let’s be honest, the term “the best” can mean something different to each one of us. Whether it’s the most delightful dining experience, the most heartfelt customer service, or simply the coziest nook to grab a cup of coffee, Knoxville’s Best of the Best winners represent a spectrum of excellence. What unites them? Definitely the hard work and dedication behind the scenes that lead to their amazing accomplishments.
This year, there’s a special buzz in the air! As I flipped through our list of winners, I was absolutely inspired by the surge in women-led businesses. It might just be the highest number we’ve ever recognized! These trailblazing entrepreneurs have not only stepped into leadership roles but are also paving the way for others and proving that the age-old notion of “you can’t have it all” is simply a myth. They’re living proof that with passion and determination, success is within reach.
So, what are the secrets behind their success? I reached out to some of these remarkable women, and their stories left me feeling inspired—and I’m sure they’ll do the same for you!
Take it from Jenny Vipperman, CEO of ORNL Federal Credit Union, who passionately advocates for taking risks. She reminds us, “If you’re not willing to take a risk on yourself, how can you expect anyone else to?” Wise words indeed! It’s about stepping out of your comfort zone to embrace new opportunities.
Similarly, Michelle Amelse, owner of Amelse & Edmonds CPAs, emphasized that taking calculated risks is essential for growth. “You’ll never grow if you stay in the same place,” she says. Embracing challenges as opportunities can be a tough yet necessary part of our personal and professional journeys.
The importance of a growth mindset is echoed by Mandy Hancock, owner of Mandy Hancock Law, who encourages us to embrace challenges rather than shy away from them. “Focus on developing a mindset that embraces challenges as opportunities,” she points out, highlighting how resilience fosters learning and personal development.
Let’s not forget about failure! Whether big or small, it holds the keys to success. April Thomas, who runs Born This Way Body Arts, beautifully sums it up: “Daily small failures are opportunities to grow.” It’s all about turning setbacks into stepping stones. And Laura Goff, a local artist, adds, “Don’t negotiate with yourself.” Recognizing your worth is crucial!
Alongside personal determination, having a tight network of supportive individuals can make all the difference. Jenny Vipperman reminds us, “Surround yourself with the smartest, hardest working people, and celebrate their wins.” It’s not about being the brightest in the room but fostering a community of shared success.
But enough about inspiration—how do we actually get to where we want to be? A well-thought-out plan is essential. Candace Viox, of Water Into Wine, states, “Anything in life requires a vision, a goal, and a plan.” It might be a journey, but having a clear direction can light the way ahead.
Above all, the essence of serving the community stands out among all winners. Heather Whittemore, owner of Be Well, reminds us to keep our passions close: “You were passionate enough about your craft to open your business.” A love for service fuels many successes in Knoxville!
As we celebrate the winners of Cityview’s Best of the Best 2024, let their stories inspire you to take your own risks, achieve your goals, and shine brightly in our community. Let’s lift each other up, face challenges head-on, and pave the way for growth and success—together!
