HVAC Contractors Seeing High Demand in East Tennessee as Summer Heat Continues
Knoxville, TN – As the summer continues to bring scorching temperatures, HVAC contractors in East Tennessee are experiencing a surge in demand for air conditioning repairs and services.
This summer has seen an uptick in cases for air conditioning repairs and service for different HVAC companies around Knoxville. The higher-than-average heat has caused a lot of stress on units, according to HVAC Service Manager.
“At least 40 plus calls a day minimum; 40-50 calls a day,” Service Manager said. “My guys are running to at least five or six no A/C calls every day. You know, it’s really challenging.”
Working Overtime to Keep Homes Cool
The HVAC team has been working overtime to ensure that people have a working A/C unit for their homes so they can beat the heat. Many of the calls they receive are for older residents who are without air conditioning in their homes.
“A third of our calls are from elderly people, individuals with infants and newborns, or individuals with medical issues,” Manager stated. “We try to treat everyone the same, but sometimes, I do have to prioritize certain calls.”
Community Support for Those in Need
The Community Action Committee (CAC) is among the organizations providing support to older individuals who may lack cooling options during the hot weather.
“We would be able to deliver a fan, or possibly a window A/C unit if the landlord couldn’t provide that,” a representative of the CAC noted. “If they’re homeowners, then we would certainly follow up directly with them and try to connect them to some type of cooling source.”
The CAC has provided around 14 window A/C units and roughly 20 fans to those in need this summer, with seniors being the primary focus for assistance.

The CAC emphasizes the importance of immediate intervention to prevent heat-related illnesses among seniors. Keeping vulnerable individuals safe and cool is a top priority for the organization, especially during periods of extreme heat.
