Spotlight on Volunteers: Nominations Open for Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards

KNOXVILLE, TN – Time to Shine a Spotlight on Amazing Volunteers!

As we look towards the end of October, there’s an exciting opportunity just around the corner for those who know some incredible volunteers. October 25 is the deadline to nominate outstanding adults and youth who have touched the lives of others in our community for the annual Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards. This is a fantastic initiative that recognizes volunteers from all 95 counties in Tennessee and celebrates those who have gone above and beyond to make a significant impact.

Nominate Your Local Hero!

United Way of Greater Knoxville (UWGK) is facilitating the nominations for several East Tennessee counties, including Anderson, Grainger, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Sevier, and Union. If you know someone who deserves recognition for their tireless work and contributions, now is the time to act! Whether they work with young people, help in local shelters, clean up our parks, or lend a hand during emergencies, every volunteer effort counts, and this is their moment to shine.

How to Nominate

Nominating a volunteer couldn’t be easier! You just need to hop online and fill out a nomination form at uwgk.org/vol-stars. But remember, the clock is ticking—your nominations must be in by October 25, 2024! It’s important to take a moment to acknowledge these selfless individuals who put so much effort into helping others and creating a better community for everyone.

What Happens Next?

Once the nominations are in, a panel will sift through them and select one youth and one adult finalist from each participating county. These finalists will then be invited to the Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards ceremony happening in Nashville on February 16, 2025. Just imagine the joy for those volunteers who get to celebrate their contributions on such a grand stage!

The Importance of Volunteers in Our Communities

Matt Ryerson, the President and CEO of UWGK, beautifully summarizes the role volunteers play in our lives: “Our volunteers are the backbone of our communities, providing support during emergencies, mentoring our youth, improving our outdoor spaces, and more.” It’s clear that recognizing these efforts through such awards is more than just a ceremony; it’s a heartfelt way to say thank you for all that they do.

Need More Information?

If you have any questions about the Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards or if you’re interested in exploring more volunteer opportunities around, don’t hesitate to reach out! You can contact UWGK’s Community Engagement Manager, Kate Barnett, via email at barnettk@unitedwayknox.org or give her a call at (865) 582-4085.

Spread the Word!

Let’s make sure we don’t miss the chance to recognize the amazing volunteers among us. Share this information with your friends, family, and colleagues. Everyone knows someone who spreads kindness and positivity in our community. With the nomination deadline fast approaching, let’s join together to honor those who make Knoxville and the surrounding areas a better place to live!
