Food City Lends a Hand to Support Knox County Schools

Knox County has something big to smile about! Food City has just made a generous donation of $25,000 to the United Way of Greater Knoxville to help power the Community Schools Initiative. This fantastic contribution shows just how much businesses care about the communities they serve, and in this case, it’s certainly a win-win for local students and families!

What is the Community Schools Initiative?

If you’re wondering what the Community Schools Initiative is all about, you’re not alone! It’s a program designed to connect families to essential resources, providing much-needed services to students across 16 schools in Knox County. The United Way works with nearly 400 partners to offer a variety of programs that extend beyond just regular school hours. We’re talking about after-school activities that make a real difference in the lives of over 6,400 students during the 2023-2024 school year.

The Heart of the Community

The programming that comes from this initiative isn’t just about academics; it addresses the whole student experience, which can include food security, after-school clubs, and even vocational training. That’s right, it’s all about preparing young people for the future!

This collaboration is crucial, as Knox County Schools Superintendent has pointed out. By teaming up with community partners, the initiative strives to ensure the success of students. And let’s not forget the countless heroes behind the scenes – 393 donors and volunteers have jumped on board to help keep these programs running smoothly, showcasing the real spirit of community support in action!

Thanking Those Who Contribute

To celebrate all these incredible efforts, a special “thank you” breakfast is set for June 2024. This event will honor the achievements made possible by this wave of community support, bringing together all who have worked diligently to uplift our students. It’s a great way to reflect on how unity can lead to amazing results!

Beyond Just School

Project Help – More Ways to Give Back

In addition to the Community Schools Initiative, Food City and Home Federal Bank have partnered to launch Project Help. This initiative offers emergency energy assistance to families in need, particularly during the colder months. The program is set to accept donations until February 4, 2025. It’s a fantastic opportunity for community members to step up and provide support for the elderly, those facing job losses, and individuals with disabilities.

How You Can Get Involved!

The Knox County community is encouraged to jump into action by volunteering or contributing to schools’ wish lists. Have a little extra time or resources? There are many ways to help out and make a positive impact in the lives of students and their families.

As we can see, it takes a village to raise a child, and that village is filled with generous hearts ready to open doors for the youth of Knox County. Here’s to making it a great year for students everywhere!
