Knoxville Welcomes a New Generation of Eye Care at East Tennessee Binocular Vision Center

In Knoxville, a delightful family story is unfolding at the East Tennessee Binocular Vision Center, where the passion for eye care is being passed down from father to son. Seth A. Rhyne O.D. has recently joined his father, M.W. Rhyne Jr. O.D., in their optometry practice, and their shared commitment to providing top-notch primary eye care is heartwarming.

A New Chapter Begins

At just 32 years old, Seth has embarked on a journey that he once considered different. Growing up, he attended Powell Middle and High Schools, where he thrived in music and creative writing, even playing in the PHS marching band. “I always had an appreciation for the arts, but my mom always hoped I’d become an optometrist,” Seth recounts with a smile. After earning an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Tennessee, the urge to follow in his father’s footsteps became too strong to ignore.

“I never thought he would do this,” M.W. Rhyne comments with pride. Once he made the decision, Seth had to do some serious catching up on science courses but proved to be more than capable, ultimately graduating as valedictorian from the Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO). “And he had the highest score on the national exam,” beams his father, full of fatherly pride.

Quality Care for All Ages

The Drs. Rhyne, as they are affectionately known, are deeply committed to providing exceptional care for patients of all ages. They specialize in binocular vision, which is all about helping both eyes work together to create clear, three-dimensional images. “We offer vision redevelopment services,” explains Dr. Seth, meaning they address complex vision issues, whether it’s helping adults recover from vision loss due to a stroke or assisting kids in developing their visual skills.

For children, early intervention is key. The doctors conduct screenings and look for signs of vision problems like difficulty tracking objects or losing their place while reading. “Often kids don’t complain because they assume everyone sees like they do,” Dr. Seth notes. This awareness and proactive approach set them apart in their field.

A Flexible Approach

Starting out as a new practitioner, Dr. Seth is keen on making eye care accessible. “It’s easy to get an appointment—just give us a call!” he encourages. Their offices are conveniently located at 715 Callahan Dr. near the I-75 interchange and at 9051 Executive Park Dr. near the I-40/75 Cedar Bluff interchange, catering to patients from not just Knoxville but also from neighboring states like North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Community and Family Roots

Caring for others extends beyond their professional lives. Seth and his wife, Caitlin, whom he married during the COVID-19 pandemic in a small, intimate ceremony on the family farm, share a love for animals and nature. “We don’t have cows anymore, but we do have two horses now,” Seth shares with excitement. Meanwhile, M.W. finds joy in tending to his garden.

M.W. Rhyne, a seasoned optometrist with 50 years of experience, recalls his own beginnings in the field. He’s grateful for the opportunity to share the profession with his son, making their bond even stronger. Outside of their professional commitments, the family enjoys a rich community life. In fact, during the busy days, Dr. M.W. brings fresh eggs and canned vegetables to the office, inviting patients and passersby to help themselves for a donation to his church, Mt. Hermon United Methodist.

A Bright Future Ahead

With a shared passion for eye care and a dedication to community service, the Rhyne family is forging a path into the future, offering *premier eye care* to the people of Knoxville and beyond. “My dream is to be one of the best providers of primary eye care in the southeast,” Seth reflects, and with the support of his father and the community, it’s clear that their shared vision will continue to thrive.
