Are you in Knoxville and wondering what to do this weekend or in the coming weeks? We’ve got your calendar filled up with some fantastic events! Whether you’re a nature lover, a music enthusiast, or just looking to have some fun with the family, there’s something for everyone!
First up, mark your calendars for the 9th Annual Butterfly Festival at the UT Arboretum, happening this Saturday, September 28th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This festival is a perfect opportunity for both kids and adults to learn about the beautiful butterflies that call our area home. Expect information booths, colorful displays, and maybe even a chance to spot some butterflies in action! It’s a great way to soak up some sunshine while appreciating nature.
Next on the list, the Great Smokey Mountains Heritage Center will host a Gospel Concert Fundraiser on October 10th, 2024, featuring the ever-popular group The Perrys. This concert is part of a global ministry established way back in 1935, and the funds raised will support their numerous efforts in the community, especially through Children’s Bible Ministries. So, grab your tickets and bring some friends along for a lovely night of music and giving back!
If you enjoy bourbon, you might want to check out the Private Bourbon Barrel Picking Event at The Kennedy. Make sure to secure your spot soon, as this unique experience is likely to sell out quickly. It’s a chance to learn from experts and enjoy some amazing spirits!
In the spirit of sweet treats, October is National Cookie Month! Historian Sarah Morgan will be leading a delightful event called 2nd Annual Cookie Champion-Chip. This fun bake-off will see a classic First Lady cookie recipe go up against a beloved Oak Ridge cookie recipe. Whether you’re a baking pro or just love indulging your sweet tooth, this event promises to be both educational and yummy!
On October 3rd, the Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians will honor a trailblazer during their Annual Trefoil Society Luncheon. Held at the Foundry on the Fair Site at 11:30 AM, this year’s honoree is retired Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Sharon G. Lee, who made history as one of the first women in Tennessee’s judicial history. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women in our community and the spirit of Girl Scouting. Everyone is welcome to join and share in the festivities!
Looking for something light-hearted? The Oktoberfest at Peaceful Side Social is sure to be a blast for the whole family! Swing by for hourly beer releases, fun drawings, and unique giveaways. Kids will love the play areas complete with bounce houses and face painting. Don’t miss the costume contests and the famous chicken dance—as it’s not just about the beer, but about community togetherness, and it’s all free to enter!
For something a bit different, you can also check out Knoxville Pipes and Drums. This traditional Scottish bagpipe and drums band has performed at a variety of events throughout the Southeast, from Highland Games to weddings. Their next performance awaits, and it’s a great chance to experience rich cultural traditions!
