Lilienthal Gallery Hosts “Dreamscapes” Exhibition Opening
Located at 23 Emory Place, Lilienthal Gallery will host the opening of its most anticipated summer art exhibition ‘Dreamscapes.’ The exhibition will feature the talent of three vibrant contemporary artists: Cynthia Zhou, John Paul Kesling, and Walker Antonio. The unified yet diverse art collection will be on display through the end of September, providing art enthusiasts ample time to experience the dreamlike imagery.
Artists bring Elements of Abstract Expressionism and Fauvism
Despite the unique artistic styles of Zhou, Kesling, and Antonio, their works collectively form a cohesive exhibition. The masterpieces are marked by the use of vibrant colors and figures that transition from realism to abstraction, reminiscent of both Abstract Expressionism and Fauvism. The compositional influences of maestros like Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Paul Gauguin are perceptible in their work.
Reflections from post-World War II abstract expressionists can be drawn when observing the flexibility of the vibrant colors that subtly veil the darker core. Each artwork features elements of the subconscious, nightmares, and anxiety, presenting challenging and common themes in life but through a contained and aesthetically pleasing expression.
Opportunity to View Emerging Artists’ Work
An integral aspect of Lilienthal’s current exhibition is its emphasis on emerging artists. Zhou, Kesling, and Antonio are on the ascent in their respective careers, and their work, which is in high demand, reflects the explorations of younger artists. Lilienthal continues presenting art divergent from what is typically showcased locally, and “Dreamscapes,” aligns with this tradition.
