Clinton, TN is mourning the loss of one of its cherished residents, Dennis Ray Baker, who passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the age of 83. Born in Clinton in 1941 to the late Homer and Nora Baker, Dennis was a beacon of love and laughter in his family and community.
Dennis was not just a man, but a pillar of strength for his family. He is survived by his loving son, David Baker, and his wife Judy from Athens, TN, along with daughters Denise Wadsworth and Dana Bell, both of Clinton, TN. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Joyce Somero and her husband Ken from Quincy, FL, along with two grandsons, Jonathan and Alexander Bell.
His family remembers him as a “Mr. Fix It,” who always had the tools and skills to tackle any project. His passions included gardening, fishing, and even assembling Model-A cars. Whether he was nurturing flowers or sharing stories from his childhood about his grandfather, Dennis infused every moment with joy.
Not only did Dennis have a heart for his family, but he also devoted 30 years to serving in the Army National Guard. His commitment to service didn’t stop there; he dedicated another 30 years to working with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) before his retirement. His work ethic and dedication to both his country and community will be fondly remembered by many.
The community is invited to celebrate Dennis’s life during visitation services on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the chapel of Jones Mortuary from 6 – 8 PM. This will be an opportunity for family and friends to share their cherished memories and honor his legacy. Then, on Friday, November 8, 2024, a graveside service will be held at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Powell, TN at 11 AM.
As the community unites to pay homage to Dennis, it’s clear that his spirit will live on through the stories shared and the lives he touched. With every garden planted and every car restored, we will remember a man who could fix just about anything, especially hearts.
Knoxville, TN is also in reflection this week as it mourns the loss of Hazel Jean Summers, who passed away on October 24, 2024, at the age of 79. Hazel’s life touched many, and even in this time of sorrow, her family and friends are sure to find comfort in sharing her stories and celebrating the joy she brought into their lives.
In times like these, it’s vital for us to come together as a community. Sharing stories, offering support, and lending a listening ear can help ease the burden of loss. As we honor Dennis and Hazel, let’s remember that every life is a story worth telling, and every memory keeps their spirit alive within us.
As the days go by in Clinton and Knoxville, let’s keep the families of Dennis and Hazel in our hearts. Reach out, share a comforting word, or simply keep them in your thoughts. After all, every small act of kindness makes a difference.
