Billie Rae’s is positioned to become a cherished community hub as Knoxville experiences a BBQ renaissance with several other newcomers in the culinary scene.
Knoxville is buzzing with excitement as a new barbecue gem has just opened its doors: Billie Rae’s BBQ and Catering. This heartwarming establishment was founded by dynamic duo, Patrice and Eugene Chandler, in 2024, and it’s already making waves in the local food scene. Named in tribute to Eugene’s late mother, Billie Rae Chandler, this delightful eatery aims to fulfill a long-held family dream of owning a restaurant.
At Billie Rae’s, visitors will find more than just delicious barbecue; they will encounter a story of love, dedication, and a passion for cooking passed down through generations. Eugene, the proud pitmaster, credits his late mother and his older sister, Angela Chandler, for imparting their culinary skills to him. It’s their spirit that infuses every dish he creates.
Patrice, Eugene’s partner, shared that he puts a lot of love and care into his culinary craft. Every meal served is not just food; it’s a piece of their family’s history. With a smile, Eugene reflects on his journey, feeling immense gratitude and even shedding a few joyful tears as he revels in the reality of running his own restaurant. It’s truly the culmination of a lifetime of hard work and a deep love for cooking.
The Chandlers aren’t stopping with just one restaurant. They have exciting plans underway, hoping to expand their East Knoxville location with renovations that will surely enhance the dining experience. Aiming even higher, their ultimate goal is to get Billie Rae’s BBQ onto store shelves nationwide, making their delicious barbecue accessible to all.
Patrice believes that Billie Rae’s BBQ can be much more than just a restaurant; she envisions it becoming a warm and inviting hub for the local community, which has already embraced them with open arms. It’s the perfect place for families and friends to gather over mouthwatering meals, and with the holidays right around the corner, it’s likely to become a favorite spot for holiday gatherings as well.
But that’s not all! Just down the road, HardWood BBQ has also joined the fray, opening at 2014 W. Governor John Sevier Hwy. Owner Brandon Waldrip has crafted an array of sauces to elevate the barbecue experience. They proudly serve large sandwiches at reasonable prices, all while boasting decor filled with memorabilia from local high schools, making it a nostalgic trip for many.
With HardWood BBQ open Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday to Saturday until 9 p.m., it’s another fabulous addition for lovers of barbecue in the area.
