Temporary Intersection Closure in Knoxville for Safety Improvements
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — If you’re planning on driving through the North Broadway area in Knoxville this week, you might want to take note of some important changes happening at a local intersection. Starting today, October 29th, the intersection at Grainger Avenue and North Broadway is closed for some much-needed construction work that will last through Tuesday, November 5th.
What’s Happening?
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, crews will be hard at work installing a raised median island. This new feature will help make the area safer for everyone by putting an end to left turns from northbound North Broadway to southbound Hall of Fame Drive. For those who frequently navigate through this busy stretch, you might need to slightly alter your route during the closure.
Safety First
The raised median isn’t the only enhancement coming to the area. In addition to the median, workers will also be adding a new crosswalk between Kenyon Street and the entrance and exit ramps for Hall of Fame Drive. This is exciting news for pedestrians, as it provides a more visible and protected way to cross North Broadway.
The City of Knoxville has highlighted how these improvements will significantly benefit pedestrians. With the new crosswalk, those who find themselves unable to make it across all lanes of traffic at once will now have a safe spot to pause. This is a positive step toward making our streets safer for walkers, joggers, and anyone else who needs to cross this busy road.
Guidance for Drivers
To help you navigate this brief intersection closure, detour signs will be placed to guide drivers toward Cecil Avenue. As North Broadway remains open in both directions, you can still get around without too much hassle, just be ready to follow those signs!
Mark Your Calendars
This construction work is all about enhancing community safety, so even though having the intersection closed might be a minor inconvenience, it should lead to a much safer environment in the long run. If you’re commuting in the area, be sure to plan ahead and give yourself a little extra time!
Mark your calendars for November 5th, when the work is expected to wrap up, and drivers and pedestrians can enjoy the new and improved safety features at this intersection.
Stay Informed

And with these improvements, it’s clear that efforts are being made to make our community not just a great place to live, but a safe one as well.
