Oak Ridge Gears Up for Winter with Coats for the Cold Drive

As winter approaches, the community of Oak Ridge is rallying together for a heartwarming initiative known as the Coats for the Cold drive, organized by KARM. This annual event is all about providing warm coats for those in need and is set to run through November 9. The good news is that anyone can participate by donating coats—new or gently used—for men, women, and children.

Where to Donate

Folks in Oak Ridge can drop off their coat donations at the local KARM Store, located at 461 Oak Ridge Turnpike, next to Tractor Supply. There are also over 25 KARM Stores Donation Centers and mobile donation trailers spread across the surrounding counties, making it easy and convenient for everyone to pitch in. When donating, it’s important to let the team know that your donation is for Coats for the Cold, ensuring the coats are sorted properly.

The Goal: 10,000 Coats

Last year, KARM successfully collected more than 9,000 coats, and they have set their sights even higher this year, aiming for an impressive 10,000 coats. With stores spanning across Anderson, Blount, Grainger, Hamblen, Knox, Loudon, and Sevier counties, the initiative has the potential to make a significant impact in the local community.

Who Benefits?

For those who find themselves in need of a warm coat this winter, help is available! Local service agencies and churches are providing coat tickets to individuals and families who need them. With these coat tickets in hand, shoppers can head to any KARM Store between November 18 through December 7, allowing them to choose a coat at no charge.

A Community Effort

The Coats for the Cold initiative truly highlights the spirit of generosity and compassion within the Oak Ridge community. It’s a reminder of how important it is to look out for each other, especially during the colder months. The act of donating just one coat can make a huge difference in someone’s life, providing not just warmth but also a sense of belonging and care.

How to Get Involved

If you’re looking for a way to help out and contribute, don’t hesitate to gather any coats you might be willing to part with and take them to one of the donation locations. Whether it’s a coat you’ve outgrown, one you no longer use, or a new coat you’ve purchased for this cause, every little bit helps.

As the days grow shorter and temperatures drop, let’s band together as a community to ensure that everyone has access to the warmth and comfort coats provide. Keep an eye on your closet, rally your friends and family, and spread the word about this wonderful initiative. The deadline is just around the corner, so make sure to act soon before November 9 arrives!

Mark Your Calendars

Remember, if you’re in need of a coat or know someone who is, the shopping days run from November 18 to December 7. Don’t miss this chance to receive a warm coat completely free of charge!

Let’s ensure that this winter, no one in our community has to face the cold alone. Together, we can achieve the ambitious goal of collecting 10,000 coats and help many people stay warm this winter!
